Ye daulat bhi le lo with English Translation

Singers  : Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh
Lyrics by : Sudarshan Fakir

Ghazal : Ye daulat bhi le lo with English Translation

Take away my wealth and fame

Bhale chhin lo mujhase meri javaani
You may even take my youth

Magar mujhako lauta do bachapan ka saavan
But please return the monsoon of my childhood

Wo kaagaz ki kashti, Wo baarish ka paani
that paper made boat, and the rain

Mohalle ki sabase nishaani puraani
That oldest relic of the neighborhood

Wo budhiya jise bachche kahate the naani
That old lady that children used to call Grandmother

Wo naani ki baaton mein pariyon ka dera
Those fairies that dwelt in the stories of Grandmother

Wo chahare ki jhuriryon mein sadiyon ka phera
The experience of centuries visible by the wrinkles on the face

Bhulaaye nahin bhool sakata hai koi
Even if one tries, one can not forget

Wo chhoti si raatein wo lambi kahaani
Those seemingly short nights and long stories

Kadi dhuup mein apane ghar se nikalana
Sneaking out from the house in the sunny afternoon

Wo chidiya wo bul-bul wo titali pakadana
Oh, sparrows and nightingales chirping and those naive efforts to capture the illusive butterfly

Wo gudiya ki shaadi mein ladana jhagadana
Having disagreements with friends while celebrating the wedding of dolls

Wo jhuulon se girana vo gir ke sambhalana
that falling from the swing and standing up again

Wo peepal ke pallon ke pyaare se tohafe
Those endearing gifts of peepal leaves (peepal : a name of tree)

Wo tuuti hui chuudiyon ki nishaani
Memorandum of those broken glass bangles

Kabhi ret ke uunche tilon pe jaana
Occasionally going to the hill of sand

Gharonde banaana banaake mitaana
Making Sand Castles and then destroying them

Wo maasoom chaahat ki tasvir apni
That picture of my innocent imagination

Wo khvaabon khilaunon ki jaagir apni
Those dreams and toys were our sole wealth

Neither were we effected by world's sorrows nor bound by relationships

Badi khuubasuurat thi wo zindagaani
That life was so beautiful
